A romantic vine pergola – shady, fragrant and full of South Tyrolean charm

A garden of your own that nobody can look into. A vine pergola where the afternoon simply slips away. Chalet Hortensie has 95 m² of outdoor space and more garden than any other chalet we have. Inside, 75 m² of living space awaits up to five guests. The chalet is in Riffian, surrounded by our orchards. Merano is a seven-minute drive away.

The vine pergola and the sheltered garden

The vine pergola is what guests come back for. Under the vines it stays pleasantly cool even in high summer, whether at breakfast or in the evening with a glass of our own farm wine.

The garden is at the back, which makes it especially sheltered. No footpath running through, no neighbouring terrace in view: here you really are on your own. Besides the pergola there is a vintage-style seating area, a sunbathing lawn, sun loungers with a parasol and a covered dining area with a private gas barbecue.

Room for up to 5 guests

Two bedrooms and a sofa bed in the living area, plus two bathrooms with rain showers, so nobody has to wait in the morning.

The large kitchen-living room is fully equipped: ceramic hob, large fridge, dishwasher, coffee machine, kettle and toaster. You can cook here just as you would at home. But you don’t have to: our farm shop sells produce from our own farm. And on request we bring you fresh bread rolls every morning.

Riffian – just minutes from Merano

Riffian lies where the Passeier Valley begins, at the foot of the Texel Group Nature Park. Merano is a seven-minute drive away, so the Tappeiner Promenade and the arcaded old town are quickly reached. Even so, in the evening all you hear in the garden are the crickets.

If you like to walk at a leisurely pace, this is the place for you. The Schenna Waalweg follows the old irrigation channels almost level along the hillside. A little lower down, the Passer embankment path follows the river down the valley. Both are flat, and both start on foot from the farm. It gets steeper on the Rösslsteig up above Riffian. In autumn, a trip into the valley for Törggelen is well worth it. In winter, the Naif valley station of Meran 2000 is a ten-minute drive away.

If you do feel like leaving the garden: the Finnish sauna is free to use from October to March. In the summer months, you can use it for a small surcharge. From April to early November, the heated pool at around 28 degrees and the hot tub at 32 degrees are open too. Your breakfast egg is ready every morning.

Is Chalet Hortensie right for you?

Chalet Hortensie is a good fit if you want to spend most of your holiday outdoors without being disturbed, as a couple, a group of three or a small family.

Travelling as a group of six? Then you will need Chalet Azalee or Chalet Palme, the only two with room for six. If you are planning a romantic holiday for two, Chalet Rose offers a four-poster bed and a private roof terrace. If you would like something a little more exclusive, we recommend Chalet Jasmin Superior with its own sauna and fire pit.
